Students are in the process of developing knowledge and skills to appreciate, comprehend, communicate and interact in French, one of Canada's official languages. They are learning to use the language not only to express needs and interests, but to use it also as the medium through which they can acquire and apply knowledge in a variety of subject areas.
The knowledge of two or more languages enhances cognitive development as well as problem-solving and creative-thinking skills. It also nurtures self-confidence in overall learning and in interacting with others in positive, socially acceptable and effective ways. Students will discover that they need to focus closely on how to interpret what others are trying to communicate to them as well as on what they are trying to communicate to others through oral and eventually written forms. This promotes supportive, collegial social attributes towards the ultimate goal to educate children to become life-long learners and responsible, contributing citizens.
So the next time you enter Kehila, get ready to say, "Shalom", "Hello" and "Bonjour"!
